Samsung Plans to Commercialize New Mobile TV Standard in 2009

Samsung announced on April 14 at the 2008 NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) Show in Las Vegas that the company plans to begin a consumer trial on products leveraging its new mobile TV standard, codenamed A-VSB (Advanced Vestigial Side Band), by year-end 2008, Chinese-language Sohu News reported.

The launch of the A-VSB standard has been pending since its debut in January 2007. According to the same Sohu News report, the first batch of A-VSB-enabled products is slated for commercialization in 2009. Companies involved in the A-VSB Initiative comprise Samsung, MobiTV, Nokia Siemens Networks, Rohde & Schwarz, and SES Americom.
